RELIEF?

RELIEF?

“A MIND THAT IS STRETCHED BY A NEW EXPERIENCE CAN

NEVER GO BACK TO ITS OLD DIMENSIONS.”

Oliver Wendel Homes Jr.

The most frequent question right now to me is “Do you feel like a weight has been lifted?” Not really, let me explain.

As you may be aware I have been in the process of writing a book on little known Kansas History. This has been a project that for almost two years has been my therapy for dealing with health issues. I had to do something to keep my mind occupied and keep me from feeling sorry for myself. Lets face it there are whole lot of people who have it worse than I do. I have to have something that engages me and challenges me. Since I am a history buff this was the best way to do this.

The new world of technology allows me to use the computer and telephone and do a lot of research that would take years by old methods. This allows me to explore more information and track down more stories than I would be able by to by getting in the car and spending months in libraries and museums. The digital world brings all this to me.

It is also said that on everyone’s bucket list, writing a book is one of those things that everyone wants to do. I have already done that, but this book is a whole lot harder to do. Even with my intense interest in history the mechanics of writing a book for publication is a complicated process. Really overwhelming if I were doing it all by myself. Luckily I have a friend that understands the language of the publisher.

My manuscript is submitted, the photos are submitted, and the wait begins. Relived? Not yet. When we get to talking cover design and promotion, then I will feel relief. But then there is also the numbers. Will the numbers of sales make the project worthwhile? I hope so, half of my manuscript was cut. The Volume 2 is ready made. It won’t happen without the first one selling real well.

What to do next? Are you kidding? There is so much going on that I will be running ragged for the next year. Besides, I have to keep sharing my thoughts with you here. For those who have asked, don’t you like this story better than politics? Enjoy your break.
